Ok so the honda gx200 is capable of developing some good horsepower and is easy to work on. Thing that lets it down is oil capacity and lack of oil pump. Ive gone through 2 motors in 2 meetings. Shes getting an engine upgrade....

The kart I have runs a honda gx200 engine that has been modified to be a race engine. Its running a billet rod and flywheel modified rockers higher compression and a mikuni carb. I have a couple of spare engines one of which Im building another race engine. After looking around the internet theres a lot of performance parts for these engines

Optics and accessories / Thermal time
« on: September 23, 2024, 07:21:52 pm »
Well it seems a natural progression from nv is get a thermal. I was curious about them so bit the bullet and bought a budget unit. I didn't want to spend big bucks as realistically it wont get used much and I just want a little taste at this stage of what it is all about. The unit I got was a hikmicro lynx s lc06s thermal spotter, Its the bottom of the range but I was able to try it in the shop and it seemed ok. We took it out that night on a possum shoot. So far it has worked well picking up possums we would of normally walked past. We need to have a bit more of a play with it and muck around with the settings but so far it looks like its going to do the job without a heap of fancy stuff we dont need and wont break the bank.

Been playing a bit more with this. What Ive found is that its best to use it with ab ao scope, otherwise you get blurry target and sharp reticle or the other way around depending on how you focus it. Another thing with it is the screen is quite bright so after looking through it it takes a little bit for your eye to adjust once you stop looking through it

Still doing the possum shooting on the farm and dog is good and knows when we are going so is waiting at the car ready to go every time. Averaging 20 to 25 each time we head out. In the warmer weather we are finding a 50/50 on the ground and in trees. As it gets colder we tend to find them more in the trees. I swap between my chopper and a slazenger 22 I picked up which does the job well

After a bit of playing around with some handloads it looks like this rifle isn't going to benefit from the extra case capacity. It still likes the load that It was running as a standard hornet. It will still have the benefits of less brass stretch due to the shoulder that forms after fire forming it.

had it out again today. tried 3 different loads using a 75gn speer. I had some cfe 223 varget and some 4064. shot a 1" group at 100 with the varget second best was with cfe and way behind was the 4064 which is strange as its the same powder as varget as far as I know..

Firearms / 22 hornet project
« on: October 08, 2023, 09:04:29 pm »
Finished another project I've been tossing up weather to do or not. This one is a 22 hornet k conversion. I imported a reamer from the us. I have 3 hornets and I picked my single shot nef as the first candidate as I could take the barrel off and see what's going on as I reamed the chamber easier than a bolt action. I reamed the chamber using plenty of lube and going slow. Its turned out well and I had it out fireforming brass for it over the weekend. Happy with it so far..

Firearms / Home made case lube
« on: September 09, 2023, 01:55:49 pm »
Tried the home made case lube today on some 243 Ive loaded up to test accuracy on the ph of wifes. Very unscientific way of making it but I used the empty dillon case lube spray bottle, put about a teaspoon of solid lanolin in and filled it up with ipa. It took quite a while for lanolin to dissolve but no worries, I'm not one of those guys that wants instant results as a lot do these days. Pleased to say worked really well and quite a lot cheaper than ready made label brand stuff.
