So the time has come for a new saw. Live in town now so don't need as bigger aw as what I've had in the past. Will just be used for a bit of pruning, firewood and maybe a fence or similar building things and chuck in the car when we go camping. Looking around $600max husky and oleo mac are what I'm looking at . I'm a husky fan but the 120 and 130 don't seem to have good reviews..
Went saw shopping ended up bringing home a husky 120. Got home and got straight into some stuff that needed to be done, the most enjoyable sawing Ive done for ages starts straight away will sit there happily idling while you clear branches no boggy stalling bs starts hot Im happy as with it. got the brand new saw some oil files and a spare chain for under $400.
I'm a stihl fan, personally. Huskys always seem heavy and unbalanced. Oleo used to be quite good but haven't laid hands on any newer ones, let alone done work.
Though next time a buy a big one I'm going to give makita a go. Know a few forestry boys going over to them, they're lighter (all magnesium) and seem to do the thing, they're all happy anyhow, and they should know.
I've heard he makitas are pretty good. the other one I would of looked at is a shindaiwa or something like that. The japs have a knack of being able to make good small engines and their machining is really good these days.
Im going to throw the mculloch away and old faithful husky 40 might get a rebuild
