Vostok/Baikal
« on: »
got a voucher for my bday from the kids from lgs. Went in today and came out with a Vostok/Baikal toz 12 from what I can work out. Its a heavy barrel single shot 22lr target rifle. Its had weaver dovetail blocks fitted to it and Ive since mounted a 3-9x40 scope on it ready for the next trip to the farm,

After a bit of a clean and going over I felt i could improve it a little bit so took it out of the stock for a bit of a better look. Its a typical russian design It looks crude but its simple rugged and typically over engineered. This thing is never going to break. All I've done to it is remove the trigger assy clean it and mirror polish all the trigger and sear mating surfaces. That has been a major improvement and Ill leave it as is now until I put some rounds through it. If it shoots well I can see that I can drill and tap the trigger and fit a sear engagement adjusting screw.

Tried this thing out today and with the limited budget ammo I had this thing shot really well. Im sure if you had the time and a good seletction of different ammo this would be up there as far as being able to do well in club level target shooting. You just wouldnt win any beauty contests with it thats all. Now to wait till its possum time and clip the night vision onto it and see how that goes

Well its a bit ugly but shoots well so it stays. Did a reblue on the barrel today and it would be my best bluing job yet...
