how to stiffen a synthetic stock

If your not that good with hands on projects this is very simple and its something you can do yourself if youd like a little gun project to do. I did this to my howa mini which was a bit to flexi to shoot well using a bipod but stiffened it up well afterwards. First you need to check if the barrel is floating in the stock I used a dowel with sand paper wrapped around it to get even clearance around the barrel. After youve done that you need to scratch up the plastic so the resin has something to key into you just need to scratch up to the level of the barrel channel. Scratch up the stock and all the reinforcing ribs. I used a chainsaw file and bent the tang over and sharpened it. Then mask the edges each side of the stock and anywhere you dont want resin. Give it a blow out. Mix some epoxy resin exactly as per instructions in a thin disposable cup. Dont do what I did and thought because it was a cold day put extra hardener in it to help it go off. Youll end up with a gooey mess thats a prick to clean up. Have stock set up level and tip your mix into the channel up to just under the bottom of the cutout at the end of the stock where the barrel goes through. Wait for it to dry and reassemble your rifle.
