Home made pills
« on: »
I just got hold of some pills made from 22lr cases to see how they go. They look well made I think they are around 62gr and have a conical base which I've never seen before. Once this weather clears ill head out to the farm for a test and report back..

I came across this a while ago. The tools swage jackets out of old brass. Obviously .22lr for your 20 cals but I think they also used a .38spl for jacketing 30 cal.

Seems a little bit excessive, but cool none the less.

I loaded up 10 of these today as that should give me an idea of how they will go in the rifle I'm going to try them in tomorrow. Twist is a bit slow at 1 in 12 from memory but It will be fun to try. used some imr 4064 for these. The pills were very consistent in weight so that's a good start I guess..

learnt a few things today at the range.
1. I was an idiot and forgot about having a strong coffee before shooting in a comp. made me shaky as ****.
2. These pills shot surprisingly well in the rifle I took to try them in, a 1 in 12 h&r hadi rifle which would be the least accurate rifle I own, but still managed 2x 2.5" groups at 100 without trying to hard and using a load I just threw together and a bipod which these particular rifles don't like to much to try them out. it was a min load of imr 4064 which I've never used before.
3. If your using dillon spray on case lube wipe the loaded rounds down with some meths on a rag to get the residue off or they become sticky after a while when you try and chamber them. Probably wouldnt notice it as much on a bolt action..

Always up for trying new things. Something else that I noticed at the range with the 223 I was using that Ive never experianced with another rifle was there was some kind of harmonic thing going on after the shot and it went on for a while. You couldnt feel it and I only noticed it after I had taken a shot and was spending a bit of time looking at the target through the scope. When my ear muff touched thw stock you could hear some kind of harmonic ring in the rifle..
