As for cleaning it goes I've found that good old hopes9 does a pretty good job. After letting it soak for 15-20 min I usually get quite a bit of copper coming out on the patches. I also will use an ammonia based cleaner for the best results. Some people seem a bit scared of using ammonia but you just need to make sure you don't leave any in your barrel which is pretty simple, after you've done the ammonia clean a couple of wet patches of the no9 couple of dry patches and then an oily one takes care of it.
